HURLEY

Hurley is the leader of this pod, he can be very strict with rules and has no issue with banishing someone. Though he is willing to accept new members and can be a very kind merman.

He is what's known as a mer-shark, which is a rarer species of mer that holds a shark tail rather than the more common version of a fish tail. Hurley is specifically a Tiger Shark mer. He swims slightly different than the typical mer, his tail moving side to side rather than up and down.

Isolde

Isolde is a Cecaelia which is a mer species that is viewed negatively due to often being witches or downright evil. Out of all six of her sisters, Isolde was the only one interested in using her magic for the good of others rather than for herself. This caused a fight that made her abandon them, later finding Hurley's pod and being accepted after healing the leader.

A Cecaelia being male is extremely rare, but she does have a brother she never got to meet.

kairius

Kairius is an adventurous troublemaker with too much interest in human activities. He often travels alone for months at a time just to return to the pod as if he hadn't been gone in the first place.

It's very common for male mers to switch pods or outright live alone, so Kairius' attitude isn't uncommon, though truthfully it becomes very annoying for his friends.

merrick

Merrick was previously very close to his twin sister, Ronelle, before he moved from their birth pod to Hurley's. His birth pod was very nomadic, so they moved from place to place often instead of finding one shelter semi-permanently.

He switched to Hurley's pod when his original leader stopped by them, apparently knowing Hurley well. Merrick liked this new pod better and so he officially moved.

struana

Struana is a well-meaning, often sweet mermaid who mostly joined Hurley because of a crush she formed on Kairius. Whether he knew of this or not is unknown, but he never seemed to return her interest so Struana's crush mostly faded (she still thinks he's physically appealing lmao)

She ended up staying with her new group because she didn't know where her original pod would have gone and she feels attached to her new friends. She tends to be clumsy, and very bad at singing despite most mermaids holding natural musical talent, but she's too cute for others to ridicule her for it.
